Groove Juice Swing offers classes on a broad range of Jazz Age and Swing Era dances: swing dance, Lindy Hop, Charleston, Balboa, vernacular jazz dance, and more.   Not sure where to start out?  Check out our How It Works or FAQ pages!

Preregistration for classes online (here!) closes at 1am the morning of the first class of the series. We hope this encourages you to register early!

Cardio Charleston (All Levels)

Begins Tuesday, September 2, 2014

For both guys and girls—finally, a swing dance class that is focused on fitness. Join us once a week for an hour of dancing minus the starting, stopping, rotating, and waiting around. We will teach fundamental solo jazz and Charleston steps, integrating them into a fast-paced class to make sure you get a fun and energetic workout. If you've never tried solo jazz, this is a fantastic way to get started! All levels of dancers are welcome. Drop-in price is $7/class.

Level 1A: Swing Basics Register Online Swing Basics (4 weeks / Beginner)

If you've never been introduced to swing dancing, or if it's been a while, then this is the class for you! In this four-week series, students will learn basic Swing and Charleston moves, and how to feel comfortable on the social dance floor.

Level 1B: Swing Expansion Register Online Swing Expansion (4 weeks / Beginner)

In this four-week series students will expand upon skills learned in our Swing Basics class. This includes new moves to add to your repertoire, Charleston and turn variations, and a fun routine. Students will also improve their technique and musicality skills, preparing them for an easy transition to Lindy Hop!

Level 2A: Fundamentals of Lindy Hop Register Online Fundamentals of Lindy Hop (4 weeks / Intermediate)

The Lindy Hop is the original high-energy partnered jazz dance, invented during the late 1920s in Harlem and popularized in the '30s and '40s. During this four-week series students will use the skills learned in our level 1 classes as a basis for Lindy Hop. Students will learn the fundamentals of the dance, swing outs and other classic moves that made Lindy Hop so popular.

 

Future Classes

Generally, classes are 4 weeks long and begin the first week of each month. They become open for registration when they are posted on this page, at least 2 weeks before their start date. Groove Juice Swing, established in 2004, is based in Rochester, NY and specializes in Lindy Hop, the original form of swing dance from the 1920s and 1930s. Groove Juice Swing offers dance classes, weekly social dances, live band dance events, performances, and dance workshops throughout the year. Staff members and instructors are passionate about all things Lindy Hop, traveling all over the world to compete against and learn from the very best Lindy Hoppers. They bring that same commitment and enthusiasm to the dance community in Rochester.
