Roaring 20s Party & Charleston Workshops
Roaring 20s Party & Charleston Workshops
This page is for workshop registration
only.
Come experience the dance that the 1923 New York Times calls
"the most exciting steps of the season", and 1926 Theatre Magazine
calls a "wriggling vulgarity." Put on the ritz and your dance shoes
and come be a part of one of Groove Juice Swing's most beloved
parties of the year: The Roaring 20s Party!
We will be
featuring FOUR DJs plus a Charleston performance by Jo Monroe. A
free beginner 20s Charleston lesson will also be held before the
dance for anyone who wants to learn the basics for the first time
or brush up on their skills, "wriggling" optional.
Guests are
encouraged to dress in period style and experience one of the most
colorful and formative epochs in American history. We will have a
candid photographer as well as themed selfie station! Drop
by at 7pm if you would like to join the beginner 20s Charleston
lesson, or arrive at 8pm to come in time for the first DJ to start
their set!
In addition
to the party, Groove Juice Swing is hosting a series of workshops
during the day!
No previous experience is necessary. Come with or without a
partner.
Registration
$70 preregistered. At-door
registration price is $20/workshop ($80 for
all) if space is available.
For workshop registration, see our Classes page or click here. All
payments for entry to the dance will be accepted at the door.

Solo Charleston
Technique
|
Do you wish your Charleston looked
more relaxed and easy? Does Charleston still feel awkward and
clunky in your body? Are you brand new to solo Charleston? In this
class, we'll break down our Charleston down to the building blocks
again, and explore classic jazz steps in a new way. We'll work on
incorporating our full body to honor the roots of the dance and
breathe new life into our movement. This class will be a great
introduction for dancers new to Charleston, and will be a challenge
for more experienced dancers as well.
Prerequisites: None, but more
experienced dancers will be challenged as
well.

Solo Charleston
Improvisation
|
You're at a social dance, a great
Charleston song comes on, and you're inspired to try out some of
your solo moves. What happens next? In this class, we'll explore
how to create variations on the fundamentals of solo Charleston. By
riffing on familiar rhythms, incorporating full body movement, and
making jazz steps feel new again, we'll work on developing skills
that translate directly to solo movement improvisation. No more
running out of moves halfway through a
song!
Prerequisites: some Charleston
experience, or attending the Solo Charleston Technique
workshop.
