to Lindy Hop, there is a wide world of swing dancing that can be
explored through focused classes and social dancing, Topics include
musicality, partnership, rhythm, classic repertoire, choreography,
line dances, and more!
Lindy Creativity
In this new class, both leaders and followers will learn to
develop their own variations, rhythms, combinations, and moves.
We'll help you unleash your inner creativity so you can come up
with new stuff to throw into your dancing all the time! You'll get
better at improvising, thinking on the spot, and being more
receptive to your partner and the music that you're dancing to.
Musicality
In this four week musicality series, students will learn to fit
their dancing to the music's rhythm, melody, and mood. This is a
key characteristic of improvised swing dancing, not commonly found
in other partnered dances. Students will expand their skills by
taking inspiration from the music and learning to become
co-instruments with the band. We'll teach how to predict the music
and how to accentuate breaks, as well as give ideas on how to play
with rhythm and expression when dancing.
Tempo and Style
In this four-week series, students will solidify their Lindy Hop
technique in order to dance to tempos ranging from slow and bluesy
to fast and hot. We'll practice how to dance to different styles of
music at these tempos, such as a New Orleans tune and a classic
jazz number. Students will be challenged to develop their own
personal style throughout the class, with ideas and direction from
the instructors.
Intermediate Moves
This four-week series includes all of the quintessential moves
that should be in the vocabulary of any Lindy Hopper. Moves range
from fun and silly to tricky and challenging. Students will also
learn how to dance at a faster tempo and improve their lead and
follow skills.
